PSA: Coworking space day passes beat monthly memberships in 90% of cities

I was dead set on getting a monthly coworking membership in Medellin back in February. Some guy on this forum said "just pay for day passes your first week" and I ignored him. Ended up locked into WeWork Poblado for $350/month. Then I found THREE better spots within walking distance that were $12-15/day. Could have saved like $200 by testing first. Has anyone else gotten burned by a monthly membership before testing the neighborhood?

Man that $350 figure is ABSOLUTELY INSANE. You paid that much for WeWork Poblado when there were cheaper spots right there? I would have been so mad walking past those $12 day pass places every morning knowing I was throwing money away. But honestly that's on WeWork too they know EXACTLY what they're doing locking tourists into those monthly contracts before they figure out the neighborhood. I almost did the same thing in Buenos Aires last year but luckily the monthly place I wanted was full so I had to do day passes for a week. Found a rooftop spot with free coffee for like $10 a day that I would have never seen otherwise. The whole coworking industry preys on people who want to feel like they're being productive before they actually know the area.

Wonderin' though... do you think those $12 day pass spots would have actually worked for you long term? Like the vibe and the internet speed and all that... I always wonder if the cheap places are skimping on stuff you only notice after a week.
