Shoutout to the guy at the retro game store who talked me out of deleting my save files

Back in 2019 I was at this little shop in Portland called Retro Game Trader. I was telling the clerk how I had like 200 save files across different memory cards and was thinking of wiping them all to start fresh. He just looked at me and said "you know those are basically digital time capsules, right?" Then he told me about finding his dad's old Zelda file from 1993 with a note that said "for timmy's birthday." Made me realize I wasn't just hoarding data, I was keeping little moments. Has anyone else run into a stranger who made you rethink your digital clutter?

I actually did something similar with my old GameCube saves back in 2018. I had a memory card with my brother's Pokemon Colosseum file from when we were kids, and I almost formatted it because I needed space for a new game. My buddy stopped me and said "dude your brother moved to Seattle, you can't get that back." So I just bought a cheap memory card on eBay for like 8 bucks instead. Now every time I fire up that old save I remember all the afternoons we spent trying to catch Entei.
