That color picker trick finally made sense
Spent years just eyeballing colors for my digital paintings. Always looked muddy. My buddy who does concept art at Blizzard told me to use the HSV sliders instead of the default wheel. Took me about 20 minutes of messing around to get why it works. Anyone else fight with color theory until someone just showed you the shortcut?

Learned that trick a few years back and it fixed everything for me too. Started with just moving the hue slider around and keeping saturation and value locked until I got the base color right. Then I'd tweak the value up or down to match lighting conditions without losing the color itself. Made my shadows and highlights finally look like they belong in the same painting instead of fighting each other. Now I hardly touch the color wheel at all unless I'm just messing around.

Just moving the hue slider around" is honestly how I approach most color decisions now, even when I'm just picking out clothes or choosing paint for a room. Once you learn that the base hue is what carries the feeling and the rest is just adjusting for the situation, you start seeing it everywhere. It's like the world runs on this same simple logic once you know what to look for.
