That graffiti alley in Tulsa made me rethink how I write antagonists
I wandered through a back alley near the old depot last weekend and every wall had a different hand, some angry, some sad, and it hit me that maybe my villains need that same mix of voices, so has anyone else used street art or murals as a prompt for character backstories?

The "every wall had a different hand" thing is what gets me, because my own walls have one hand and it's the shaky one of a person who can't draw. But I did steal the idea from a mural downtown last year, where a woman had painted her own face half happy and half furious, and that one image gave me a whole backstory for a bad guy in about ten minutes. Turns out a face with two moods does more for a character than three pages of me explaining why he's mean.
