Noticed something weird about horror prompts lately

I was scrolling through writing prompts last night and saw 5 different ones all about 'the last person on Earth' type scenarios. It got me curious so I counted them: out of the top 30 prompts from this week, 12 were variations on apocalyptic isolation themes. I checked the same date last year and back then it was only 3 out of 30. What do you think changed to make everyone write about being alone all of a sudden?

That "last person on Earth" thing really hit home. My friend saw one of those prompts and decided to write a story about a guy who thinks he's the last human alive, spends weeks talking to a mannequin he named Carl. Turns out the guy across the street was also writing the same exact prompt, just from a different angle so they were both thinking they were alone while literally looking at each other's windows everyday. They only figured it out when one of them dropped a pizza delivery flyer in the other's mailbox as a joke. Now they co-write a podcast about how nobody reads the room anymore.
