Just realized my weekly grocery trip is a goldmine for character prompts
I was picking out apples yesterday and overheard a couple arguing about cereal brands. It hit me that these tiny moments are PERFECT for building character backgrounds in stories. Do you guys ever use real-life food moments like this in your writing?

Is it crazy that cereal choices might reveal someone's deep secrets? I swear, watching people debate sugar content is like seeing their soul laid bare... You can tell who had a strict childhood by how they cling to bland oat rings. It's all there, the need for control, the fear of change, packed in a cardboard box. Next time I'm in the store, I'm taking notes for my next paranoid baker character. Who needs therapy when you have the breakfast aisle?

Funny how @noahward brings this up. Watching couples argue over cereal shows who compromises first. Always picking the plain kind might mean they avoid conflict.
