The $8 blender that got me roasted alive in a Facebook group

Posted a thrift store blender haul in a local buy/sell group and one lady tore into me for buying anything without a metal drive coupler. Said plastic ones strip out in 3 months flat, and honestly I laughed it off until mine started smoking last Tuesday. Now I check the coupler material before I even take a photo, and I've turned into that person leaving comments on other people's finds. Is it worth being picky about parts on cheap appliances or am I just replicating the same lecture I hated?

Have you ever pulled apart a dead blender to see what actually gave out? Because once you do, you stop trusting the shiny outside and start caring about the guts. The metal coupler thing sounds like gatekeeping at first, but it really is the difference between a tool and a toy. Cheap plastic parts are made to fail, and when they do, they usually take the motor with them. So yeah, being picky about that one part is worth it, but it also turns you into the exact person you used to roll your eyes at. The trick is to share what you learned without acting like everyone else is stupid for not knowing it yet.
