Question about the free piano ad with 47 photos of just the bench
Three weeks ago I spotted a free upright piano on Craigslist in Rochester and the guy posted 47 pictures that were all close ups of the bench. Not one shot of the actual piano, just wood grain and a cushion with a stain shaped like Ohio. I messaged him asking for a real photo and he replied with two more bench pics and the words "it plays fine trust me." Back when I first started browsing this site in 2019, ads at least had one blurry full shot from across the room. Has anyone actually gone to look at one of these mystery pianos, and was there even a piano there?
I get why the bench pics are annoying but honestly a free piano is almost never worth the drive no matter how good the photos are. Every "free, you haul" upright I have looked at in person needed more in tuning and repairs than the thing was worth, so the guy hiding the piano might be doing you a favor. Your mileage may vary, but I would skip it unless you can play it first and like how it sounds.
