Lost $90 buying a 'vintage' patio set from Facebook Marketplace and got a pile of rusty tubes
Two weeks ago I drove out to a storage unit in Mesa to grab a patio set listed for $90. The pics looked sweet, white metal chairs with cushions, and the guy said it just needed a quick wipe down. I get there and the cushions are soaked through with what I really hope was rain, and two of the chair legs are rusted so bad they wobble. I still handed over the cash because I felt awkward backing out, and now half the set is sitting in my yard because I can't bring myself to toss it. So here is the debate: do you call people out for bait-and-switch pics, or do you just eat the loss and move on? I say call them out in the comments, but my buddy says that just starts fights with strangers on the internet. I'm out $90 plus a tank of gas and I want to know if I'm the only one who does this to myself. What's your worst Marketplace regret, and did you actually say something to the seller or just stay quiet?
Wait, the cushions were soaked through and you still handed over the cash? That part got me. Dude said "quick wipe down" like it was nothing but those things must have weighed ten pounds each with all that water in them. I get the awkward thing though, it's hard to stand there in a storage unit lot and tell someone their stuff is junk. But once the guy straight up lies about the condition, that's on him, and a calm comment saying "heads up, set was rusted and soaked" is not starting a fight, it's just saving the next person. Your buddy is wrong on this one.
