Just realized I've been haggling Craigslist prices all wrong for a decade

I always led with a lowball offer and got instantly ghosted, every single time. Last month in Tacoma, this seller replied back with a screenshot of the same item sold on eBay for $60 more and asked why I'd insult him like that. Turns out the trick is to ask about pickup time first and then bring up price as a side note, people open up way more when they think you're serious. Has anyone else had a seller flip the script that way or am I just bad at this? lol
