Can we talk about the $75 shipping fee on a 'free' piano in Detroit?
So I was scrolling Facebook Marketplace in the Detroit area a couple days ago and saw a listing for a free upright piano, which I thought was cool until I read the fine print. The seller wrote that the piano had to go down a narrow basement stairwell and that the buyer had to cover a $75 "handling and stair fee" that went straight to the seller, not a moving company. I messaged them out of curiosity and they admitted this was their third piano they'd listed this way, and two people had already paid the fee and shown up with trucks. What really got me was that the piano itself looked water damaged in the photos, with keys that were clearly yellowed and sticking up at weird angles. I looked at their profile and they had three other "free" listings with the same $50 to $100 fee structure attached. Has anyone else run into this kind of fake freebie setup, or is this just a Detroit thing right now?
