My skepticism about those old download portals faded after one hit

I used to laugh at those 2003 download sites, the ones with the flashing banners and the giant download buttons that were all ads. But last week I needed a driver for a 2005 scanner and everything modern kept failing me. So I hit up one of those relic portals, totally prepared to get a virus or something. Turned out they had the exact file, a ZIP that was 2.3 MB and worked perfectly on the first try. It was like finding a dusty library card that still checks out books. I'm not saying they're all gold, but I'm way less snobby about them now. Any of you trust those old download hubs when everything else gives you the runaround?
