Blew $40 on a dead GeoCities fan page at a flea market in Ohio, best money I ever lost
It was a burned CD labeled with a URL from 1999, and the page still loads but the guestbook is frozen at 14 entries from 2001. I keep going back to read a stranger named Dave arguing about dial-up speeds, and honestly the site works better than most stuff I bookmark now. Anyone else ever pay real money just to poke around a ghost town like that?
Ever hear of someone buying a GeoCities page like it's a baseball card? My buddy dropped $25 on a printout of an old Angelfire wrestling fan site at an estate sale, and the guy threw in a floppy disk that may or may not still work. He framed the printout and it hangs in his hallway like art. Honestly, the frozen guestbook fights are the best part, since nobody can edit them or take them back.
