My cheap smart lock failed at 2am and locked me out of my own apartment in Austin

The battery died silently on that $40 Amazon special lock and I stood outside in my pajamas for 45 minutes until my neighbor heard me banging. Has anyone else had a conspiracy-level failure with budget smart home gear?

Yeah battery alerts on those are basically a myth. Mine just died with zero warning, classic cheap lock behavior.

Oh man, the exact same thing happened to me with one of those cheap keypad locks. I was standing there in my boxers at 3am trying to get back into my place after taking the trash out.
