Poured 14 yards in one day with no cold joints and my arms still hurt
We had a 40 by 60 shop slab out in Wentzville last Tuesday and the whole crew was short handed, just me and two guys on the screed. Started placing at 6am, trucks came every 20 minutes, and I was sweating the whole pour because the sun was already cooking and we had a retarder in the mix but you never really know. Ran the laser screed for the first half, then hand screeded the edge sections where the truck could not reach, and somehow we stayed ahead of the set the entire time. By noon we were floating, by 2pm we were troweling, and when the boss walked out to look at it he just nodded and said nothing fell apart, which from him is basically a medal. The control joints sawed clean the next morning and not one corner spalled on us. I have been finishing for 11 years and that was the first big pour where I did not lose a single edge to a cold joint. Any of you guys run into a day like that where everything just lines up and then you can barely lift your arms for two days?
