The $12 thermal paste spreader changed my whole workflow

I've been building PCs for 6 years and always used the pea method, but last week I grabbed a cheap metal spreader from a shop in Portland and my temps dropped 4 degrees on the same CPU. Turns out the uneven layer was making my cooler work harder than it needed to, something I'd never clocked before. Has anyone else found a small tool that quietly fixed a habit you thought was fine?
