Serious question, has anyone gone back to imaging drives with Clonezilla over just copying files?
I picked Clonezilla for a client's shop PC last Thursday because Windows kept choking on a straight file copy of 900GB, and it finished in 3 hours without a single bad sector. Now I'm second guessing if the extra menu digging is worth it for every job, or if I'm just making busywork for myself.
Image tools like Clonezilla are SLOW for the kind of work most shops do now. Copying files means you can grab what you need, work with the drive, and not sit around for 3 hours when 20 minutes of Robocopy would have done the job. The whole point of cloning is when you need a bit for bit record for legal or forensic reasons, not because your file copy choked one time, that's a Windows problem not a reason to change your whole process. Digging through those text menus every single time for routine backups is making busywork, you even said it yourself. If the drive is healthy and the files are readable, just copy the files and move on.
