Rant: I spent 8 years swapping whole drives on client machines, now I clone first and it kills me how much time I wasted
A client in Mesa dropped off a laptop last week with a failing 1TB drive and I had it cloned and back in her hands in 40 minutes instead of the old 3 hour reinstall circus. Two questions though: do you guys clone to an image file or straight to the new drive, and what tool are you running these days?

Straight to the new drive, always. Image files are just extra steps when the drive is sitting right there. Clonezilla does the job for me. Free and it just works. Forty minutes sounds about right for a 1TB if the old drive still reads okay. Failing drives can drag it out though.
