The librarian in Billings asked a question about a 1962 gas station map that changed how I vet recommendations
She pulled out this old road map and pointed at the compass rose, then asked why north was pointing straight at the snack aisle. Took me a second to get it, the map was drawn for the store's wall, not for driving. She said most recommendations get made the same way, someone draws it for their own wall and hands it to you like it's for your trip. Now I ask people where they got a rec before I try it, and I've tossed about 6 things off my list since. How do you all figure out if a rec was made for the person giving it or for you?
