A guy at my shop told me Wolverine was supposed to have a totally different origin, and I had to check
He said the original idea was Logan being an actual wolverine that got turned into a man by the High Evolutionary. I did not believe him so I dug through old X-Men issues from the 70s at my local shop in Denver. Took me about 2 weeks of flipping through back issues to track down the reference, and sure enough it was hinted at in a caption box. Blew my mind that the claw and healing stuff almost came from a totally different place. What other characters had origins that got tossed out before they stuck?
