Roaster's pride in my local shop made me back off from asking questions

I asked the guy at Blue Bottle in Austin why their Ethiopia batch tasted so fruity last Tuesday, and he gave me a 10 minute lecture on fermentation. I just wanted to know if they changed the beans, not a science class. Since then I've been buying online and brewing at home, honestly more fun now. Has anyone else had a barista kill their curiosity like that?
