Finally got my moka pot to stop sputtering by preheating the water to 140F
I have been fighting with my Bialetti for 2 years, always getting that burnt, sputtering mess at the end. Yesterday I filled the base with hot water from my kettle before screwing the top on, aiming for about 140 degrees, and the whole brew came out smooth with zero spitting. I did three pots in a row to make sure it was not a fluke and all three were clean. Has anyone else tried this with a moka pot, or do you just deal with the noise?
Wait, you preheated the water to 140 degrees? That is wild to me because I always heard you are supposed to start with cold water so the grounds heat up slowly. You are basically flipping the whole method on its head and it worked three times in a row. I have been dealing with that sputtering noise for years and just assumed it was part of the deal with a moka pot. Now I am wondering if all those burnt pots I tossed were my own fault for using cold water this whole time.
