A guy at my local cupping in Austin said my pour was 'too polite' and it changed how I brew every morning
I was at a Saturday cupping at a shop in Austin about 3 weeks ago and this older guy watched me do a pour over. He said my pour was 'too polite' and that I was barely wetting the grounds. I had been using a slow little circle for like 6 months because some video said it was gentler on the beans. He told me to pour harder and faster for the first 40 grams. First cup after that had way more body and I could actually taste the chocolate notes I kept reading about on the bag. Now I do a hard bloom pour and then ease off, and my coffee tastes way less flat. Has anyone else had someone call out their pour technique like that? What did you change?
