My cousin tried to debug my code with a rubber chicken

He sat down at my laptop, grabbed this squeaky chicken off my desk, and started pressing it against the monitor saying the bugs would flee. I just stared at him for 10 seconds before asking if he could at least check the console errors first. Anyone else have family who think programming is magic?

That rubber chicken story gave me a good laugh, but I also feel your pain. My mother once told me I should just "copy the code from a successful website" because she saw me struggling with a bug. She genuinely could not understand why I couldn't just highlight and paste the whole internet. It's like they see us typing and assume there's a secret spellbook we're not sharing with them.

Your mom is not wrong about copying code though, plenty of devs do that from Stack Overflow.
