Ran a 6 flute carbide in 1018 instead of my usual 4 flute HSS and the chips finally stopped wrapping
Was fighting stringy birds nests on a batch of 200 shaft collars for a customer in Dayton last week, tool kept loading up no matter what I did with the feed. Dug a 6 flute carbide out of the drawer and bumped the feed to .008 per tooth at 900 rpm, and the chips came off as short little sixes for the rest of the run. Same part, same setup, just 12 minutes faster per cycle because I quit stopping to untangle the tool. The coolant math changed too, I had to open the nozzle way up or the corners burned. Anybody got a feed and speed sheet they trust for 1018, or are you all just keeping notebooks like me?
