Update: that $89 "carbon offset" subscription I bought last year did basically nothing

I signed up for one of those monthly offset plans back in March 2024 after seeing an ad on a podcast. It was $89 a month and the site promised it would cancel out my car and home energy use with tree planting and clean cookstove projects. After a year and about $1,068 spent, I tried to figure out where my money even went. Their project page was a dead link and the one PDF report they sent had no names or locations on it, just vague stuff about "community partners." I emailed twice asking for specifics and got an auto reply both times. I'm not saying offsets are all fake, but this one felt like paying a company to feel better. I canceled last week and put the $89 into a used bike instead. Has anyone here found an offset program that will show you actual receipts or project addresses?
