Rode my bike to the grocery store for 8 months straight, then I checked what I actually saved on gas
Three years ago I drove 1.2 miles to the Kroger on Elm for a single bag of groceries, every time, because it felt normal. When gas hit $3.80 a gallon in my area, I started biking that same trip twice a week on a $150 used Schwinn. After 8 months I added up the gas receipts and it came to about $340 saved, which honestly wasn't as much as I expected. The part that surprised me was the shorter trips. A 10 minute drive turns into a 12 minute ride, so the time cost was almost nothing. My neighbor Roy still thinks I'm showing off, but I just hate paying for gas. Curious if anyone else has run the actual numbers on short trips like this, because mine came out way different than I assumed.
