Honestly, I've been ripping out grass and putting in desert plants for two years now, and he caught me at the mailbox last week and said it straight to my face. His point was that my gravel and rock holds heat and kills the shade, so his 400 sq ft of fescue keeps the block cooler even with the water bill. My side is that his lawn drinks about 50 gallons a day in July while mine needs zero after month one. Tbh I think we're both kind of right and it bugs me. Do you weigh water use over the heat island effect, or the other way around? Ngl I want to hear from people who've actually measured both, not just picked a side.
