My EV charging cable gave out last week, now I'm questioning my whole routine
The 20 foot cable on my home charger just stopped working after about 14 months. I woke up at 6 AM with 12 percent battery and had to scramble to find a public charger before my first delivery shift. I checked the connections and the port but it's dead, no error code or anything. Has anyone else had a Level 2 charger fail this fast, or should I just get a replacement cable and move on?

14 months is pretty short for a Level 2 cable, but honestly the cheap ones on the market now are built like crap. The insulation on mine started cracking around the plug after a year, and I could see the copper wires when I bent it. If you got a basic brand, just expect to replace parts every year or two. That said, the connector heads are the weak spot, so check if the pins inside look burnt or pushed back. Some people have luck after just cleaning the contacts with contact cleaner, but if the cable itself is dead, a replacement is cheaper than a whole new charger. Just don't buy the cheapest one again, pay a little more for a braided cable and a name you recognize.
