A solar co-op info night at the library changed my whole approach to panels
Last month I went to a free solar co-op meeting at the downtown library, just to hear the basics. But the organizer said something that hit me: "Most people overthink the hardware and forget the shading on their own roof." After that, I checked Google's sunroof tool for my address and found my west side gets way less sun than I assumed. Turns out I would have wasted money on extra panels. Now I'm planning a smaller setup, 6 panels instead of 9, and saving about $2,400 upfront. Has anyone else used that tool before picking a system, or did you just trust the installer's quote?

Man that sunroof tool is addictive, I ended up checking my neighbors' roofs too and found one guy three houses down with perfect south facing exposure while mine's all trees. I spent a whole weekend staring at satellite images and now I'm pretty sure my whole street's roofs are wrong for any real solar setup.
