The week my 65 Mustang taught me that old cars don't care about my plans
I blocked off a Saturday in April to finally swap the radiator in my 65 Mustang, and by Tuesday I had the intake manifold off too because the gasket was weeping coolant. What started as a two hour job turned into four evenings in my buddy's garage in Akron, mostly because every bolt I touched either snapped or rounded off. The high point was when his neighbor wandered over and showed me the trick of soaking rusty bolts in a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone overnight, and three of the stubborn ones came right out the next morning. I also learned the hard way that ordering parts on a Sunday means waiting until Thursday, which is how I ended up with a half torn apart car for five days. Has anyone else had a small fix snowball like that, and what do you keep on the shelf to avoid the wait?
