Hot take: I quit trusting my timing light after it lied to me on a 350 in Fresno
Last month I was setting the timing on my buddy's small block in his garage off Blackstone Ave in Fresno, and the light showed a steady 10 degrees while the engine ran rough as hell. I pulled the cap and found the balancer ring had slipped about 8 degrees, which the light kept reading as perfect. Now I use a piston stop and mark the balancer by hand before I ever grab the light. Anyone else been burned by a slipped balancer ring, and how do you check yours before you trust the marks?
