Spent $150 on a fancy knife sharpening service and got worse edges than my $10 whetstone

I dropped my chef knife collection at a shop in Portland that claimed 'professional Japanese waterstone sharpening' but they came back with rolled edges and uneven bevels. My cheap King stone at home gives me way better results. Has anyone else had a pro sharpening job that actually ruined your blades?

At least my bad sharpening is free and comes with shredded garlic in the finish.

Agree with you @grace565, free bad sharpening is always better than paying for bad sharpening. I tried that once with a cheap stone I got online and ended up with garlic powder all over my counter too. Actually it was more like little bits of stone stuck in the blade finish, which was even worse. But hey, at least it was free and I learned my lesson, right?
