The $350 certification course that paid for itself in 4 months, then aged like milk

Back in 2018 I dropped $350 on a project management cert through a local community college near Austin. At the time it bumped my resume enough to land a coordinator role making $8k more a year. Felt like a genius. Fast forward to last month, a junior candidate with zero certs got the same title I have now because they knew agile tools better than me. So now I wonder, did that cert actually teach me anything useful or did it just look good on paper? Anyone else feel like their old credentials are worthless now?
