I turned down a $12k raise to stay at a job I liked, and my old coworker thinks I lost my mind
Two years ago my company offered me a promotion to a different team with a $12,000 bump, but it meant managing people and traveling three weeks a month. I stayed put in my old role because I actually liked the work and my boss was fair, and my coworker Dana said I was throwing money away. Since then I have gotten two good raises anyway and slept in my own bed most nights, so the gap has closed more than Dana expected. I still wonder if I was too scared to take the leap, though. Has anyone else passed on a promotion and felt fine about it later, or did it come back to bite you?
