Tried a $30 tarp from Harbor Freight in a downpour and it held up better than my $100 REI one

Set up camp near Lake Tahoe last Saturday and a storm rolled in out of nowhere. Figured I'd test the cheap blue tarp I grabbed on a whim for ground cover. Ended up using it as a rain fly over my hammock after my expensive one started leaking at the seams. The cheap tarp didn't sag or drip once. I learned I've been overthinking gear for years. Anybody else had a budget item surprise them like that?

Isnt it funny how we get brainwashed into thinking expensive equals better for everything? Same thing happened to me with kitchen knives - my $15 thrift store find cuts better than any fancy set Ive owned. I swear half the markup is just marketing and a fancy logo.
