Took me 3 trips and $60 to figure out my tent stakes were the whole problem
Kept getting my tent flattened by wind at a spot near Lake Tahoe back in April, and I blamed the tent, the poles, everything but the stakes. Bought a new tent for $180, same thing happened the next trip. Finally a guy camped next to me asked what stakes I had, and when I said the cheap ones that came in the bag he just laughed and handed me some 9 inch aluminum ones. Swapped them out and the tent didn't move an inch even with gusts, so I returned the $180 tent. What stakes are you all running for rocky ground?
My buddy swore by those spiral dog tie-out stakes from Petco for hard ground, like 12 inches of twisted steel you screw in with a tool. Worked great until he snapped one off in a rock and spent 20 minutes cussing at a hole. Now he just carries a little hammer and regular 10 inch nails from Home Depot, which honestly hold fine for way less cash.
