Blew $150 on a camp stove that died in a rainstorm, my $20 backup saved the trip
Bought a fancy two-burner for a trip to Shenandoah last fall and the igniter quit on night two in a downpour. Digging out the old $20 single burner from the bottom of my bin was the only reason we ate hot food that weekend. Anyone else keep a cheap backup that ends up outperforming the expensive gear?
Kept my old cheap stove after the igniter went out too, but the rain wasn't what killed yours... it was that the igniter got wet and shorted, not the burner itself. Flick a lighter at the burner next time and you'd have been fine. Cheap backups are great, but knowing how the gear actually fails beats spending more.
