I thought my $12 rice cooker was done after 3 years of daily use, but one part swap fixed it
I got a basic 6 cup rice cooker from a thrift store back in 2019 for $12. Used it almost every day for rice, oats, even steaming veggies. About 3 years in, the bottom started getting scorch marks and the rice came out crusty on one side. I figured it was dead and almost tossed it. Then I pulled the inner pot out and saw the heating plate was covered in a thin layer of burnt starch. Took a damp cloth and some baking soda, scrubbed it for maybe 5 minutes, and the plate looked new. Plugged it back in and the rice cooked even and fluffy again, no more scorching. That was 8 months ago and it still works great. So what simple cleaning step saved something you almost threw out?
