I was at a laundromat in Tucson at 11pm and a guy folded his butter bot shirt while explaining why the robot makes him sad, and it clicked for me

Wait, the butter bot didn't fold the shirt, the guy did. That's a pretty big difference for the story to hinge on. The butter bot is from Rick and Morty, the one that just asks "what is my purpose" and gets told "you pass the butter." The sadness comes from it being built for one tiny job and nothing else. So a guy folding a butter bot shirt at 11pm in a Tucson laundromat is doing the thing the robot can't, which is kind of the whole point. Anyway the detail matters, that's what makes it land.
