Spotify made me a playlist called "Music for Planting Trees" and it is 4 hours of funeral doom metal
Last Tuesday I was out back putting two redbuds in the ground, just minding my own business with a podcast going, and Spotify decides to queue up a "Made For You" mix it labeled "Music for Planting Trees." I figure sure, some folk stuff, maybe Bon Iver, fine. Nope. First track was 11 minutes of a guy growling over a guitar tuned so low it sounded like a lawnmower in a well. I skipped ahead and it just kept going, dirge after dirge, for 4 hours according to the little counter. The weird part is I have never once played metal on that account, not one song, not ever. My best guess is it saw me outside for 6 hours straight with breaks between songs and just assumed I was grieving something. I planted the trees, they are doing fine, but now I need to know if anyone else has been handed a mood they did not ask for by a playlist with a name that sounds like a Pinterest board.
