Just realized my Spotify Wrapped was dead wrong after I checked the actual play counts
I always figured those year end recap things were pretty accurate, so when my 2024 Wrapped said I listened to the same 5 bands on repeat, I just went with it and even posted about it lol. Then last Friday I pulled up my account stats page out of boredom and the numbers did not match at all, my top artist had 340 plays on the stats page but Wrapped showed a totally different band with way fewer. I dug a little more and it turns out the algorithm seems to count things like autoplay and playlist radio as me choosing to listen, which I never did. So a song I skipped 3 times because it got queued after my real playlist still counted as a listen toward some artist I don't even like. Honestly it made me feel weird about how much I trust any of these recap things, they feel personal but they're really just counting background noise. I switched my settings to turn off autoplay last Saturday and I'm curious how different this year's recap looks in December. Did anyone else notice their stats page and Wrapped disagree, or am I the only one who went down this hole?
