My sister's grilled cheese turned into a fire alarm encore in 4 minutes flat

Last Saturday my sister offered to make lunch while I was fixing a gutter. She put the pan on high, got a call from her boss, and forgot it existed. By the time I came in, the kitchen looked like a fog machine convention and the bread was basically charcoal with a cheese core. She said, "At least it's not burnt on the outside AND inside," and I lost it. The smoke detector went off three times before she found the button. We ate cereal at 1pm. Has anyone else had a "trusted" cook in the house pull off something this wild?
