My rice cooker turned into a smoke alarm test after 3 hours

I swore my cheap rice cooker was fine, but the 'keep warm' setting turned perfectly good rice into a charcoal brick last Tuesday. It took me 3 hours of scrubbing to realize the sensor was toast, not just the rice. Anyone else waste a whole afternoon on a gadget that should have been tossed months ago?
