Am I the only one who learned to unburn garlic bread by watching the oven instead of the timer
I used to set the timer for 8 minutes and walk away, and every single time the garlic bread came out black on the bottom and pale on top. After 3 tries in one weekend my roommate said "why don't you just stand there and look at it" so I tried it. I turned on the broiler light, pulled the rack to the middle, and watched the edges turn golden brown, which took about 4 and a half minutes, then I pulled it out. The trick was nothing fancy, I just stopped trusting the clock and started trusting my eyes. The bread came out crispy but not burnt for the first time since I moved into this apartment on 9th Street. Does anyone else have a food they finally got right just by hovering over the oven?
