The 1% rule finally clicked for me after 3 failed budgets

I used to plan these super detailed monthly budgets down to every coffee and pack of gum, then beat myself up when I went over by like $12 somewhere. My friend kept telling me to just track the big three categories, housing, food, and transport, and leave the rest alone. Last month I tried it with a simple spreadsheet and only checked my spending on Sundays. I ended up actually staying under my grocery limit for the first time in maybe 8 months because I wasn't stressed about every tiny slip. Now I'm wondering if anyone else found that cutting out the micro tracking made their savings goals more real, or if that just works for certain personalities?
