Found a $6 breakfast trick in Lisbon that beat every restaurant
Went to Lisbon last month and kept blowing money on tourist cafe food. On day 4, a local guy told me to hit the padarias before 9 AM instead. Grabbed a fresh pastel de nata and coffee for under 3 euros total. Same pastry was 4.50 at the corner spot near the tram stop. Anyone else found cheap bakery hacks in Europe that work better than the obvious spots?

Oh man, the padaria trick is real and it works in like every country once you know what to look for. In Portugal it's padarias, in France it's the boulangerie away from the main streets, in Italy it's the bars where locals stand and drink their espresso in one sip and pay like 1 euro instead of 3 to sit at a table. The sitting down thing is what kills you, a lot of places in Europe charge double just for taking a seat, plus a service fee that shows up on the bill later. Order standing at the counter like the locals do and you save a few euros every single time. Also look for bakeries near train stations or markets, not near the main squares or big churches, the prices drop fast once you walk three blocks off the tourist path. Word of warning though, a lot of these spots close by noon or even 10 AM so you have to go early or you miss the good stuff.
