A hostel cook in Lisbon showed me how to feed myself on $4 a day and I can't get it out of my head
Sat next to a guy from Ireland in the hostel kitchen in Lisbon while he cooked dinner for four people. He pulled out a bag of rice, a can of chickpeas, a head of cabbage and some garlic and made a huge pot of it. He told me he had spent 9 euros on food for the entire week and never ate out once. I had been dropping 15 to 20 euros a day on meals and feeling smart about it. Been trying his approach since and my food bill dropped by more than half. Curious if anyone here has a go-to cheap meal they repeat in new cities like this.
