I wasted $60 a week on frozen dinners before I learned to cook one big pot of beans on Sunday
Honestly I want to warn people before they fall into the same trap I did. For like two years I was spending around $60 a week on those frozen single serve dinners because I thought cooking from scratch took too long after work. Then my card got declined at the grocery store in Tucson last March and I had $14 in my account, so I had to figure something out fast. I bought a 2 pound bag of dried pinto beans for $2.50, a bag of onions, and some rice, and that one pot fed me lunch and dinner for five days. Now every Sunday I soak beans, throw them in the slow cooker with cumin and garlic, and I spend maybe $12 for the whole week of food. The frozen stuff was costing me $240 a month and I was still hungry an hour later. Has anyone else made this switch, and what cheap staple actually keeps you full the longest?
