Vent: my foreman said to soak my trowel in muriatic acid to clean it, worst tip I ever took
My foreman on a job in Bakersfield told me to dump my trowel in muriatic acid overnight to strip the mortar, swore by it for 20 years. Next morning the steel was pitted and the shank felt weak, and by Friday the blade snapped right at the neck mid-course. So what do you all actually use to get hardened mortar off, or do you just keep a stiff brush and a bucket handy?
Swore by it for 20 years" and his trowel lasted that long? Doubt it. Sounds like the acid ate through yours and probably ate through his too, he just never noticed cause he blames the tools instead of himself. Honestly a good soak in plain water right after you finish and a wire brush does the same job without turning your trowel into swiss cheese.
